God of Serpents Stronger production and this album would be a bonafide classic! Favorite track: Proteus.

ICantHearVocalsInInstrumentals This would have easily been on my top of 2020 had I know about it at the time Favorite track: Farewell, Voyager.

bmurator US Progressive Rock. This is extremely good & I totally agree with Hayduke! I am ashamed that I never heard of this guy before. I have slightly changed my tastes but he is & was much better than most of what I used to listen to ten or so years ago! For example Dream Theater - Josh's voice is *so* much better! Also reminds me of some of the earlier Rush stuff. Highly recommended!!! Favorite track: Farewell, Voyager.

Hayduke X Perhaps what Voivod might sound like if they played prog rock instead of prog metal. Post-rock as a base instead of thrash. Incredible stuff! Favorite track: Farewell, Voyager.

As You Like 07:13
Dying ancient land. History crumbling like sand. Latching onto memories. Hold on tight with both hands. The angry one transformed. The scientist harnessed raging storms. The traveler brings forth disease. The old man sleeps without remorse. Crumbling like sand. Slipping through your hands. What has he really done? Raised his fury like a son. Attemping to begin anew. The world can never be reborn. Past mistakes and present plans. The future crumbling like sand. Contemplating what we knew. Hold on tight with both hands.

Metamorph 04:20
The double life he’s lived. The walls are closing in. Everything comes down. The reflection is dim. The optimist has disappeared. It all happens now. Never a chance to forgive. We can’t be trusted. We’ll just do it again. It all must come down. Formulating the plan. A means to an end. Never to evolve. He must never forget. He must return to himself. Fourth dimension solved. Take it up with the wind. The planet is dusted. Infected. Ancestry dissolved. A congress between one and the same. It’s flawless. Erase all the mistakes. A genius. Invent and forsake. The witness. Going down in flames. The progress. Swept up in the shame. The fallen. Stepped on and disgraced. The righteous. Eternally displaced. Existence. Rebooted and replaced.
4.
Proteus 03:43
Don’t mock the old ones. I drank the ocean. Poison the life source in devotion. Return to chaos. It won’t betray us. There’s no escape course. No way to save us. Eyes on the ending. Ever descending. Create the poison. Silence the voices. Disperse the virus over horizons. Eyes on the ending. Ever descending. Next one down. Next one down. We’ll be extinct or we’ll drown. Species die. Oceans rise. Cities sink in the ground. Leaders fail. Failures lead. We’ll starve before we feed. Forests burn. No one learns. We get hurt, we just bleed. Eyes on the ending. Ever descending.

Future 01:00
6.
This machine has become our fate. Undeniable there’s no escape. All my anguish invested in all of our shame. Stand before you a mastermind. The architect of historical genocide. This is vindication for robbing us blind. Bury this before it can exist. There’s no archaeologist who will ever live to discover this. Uncover this. This is the deal you already made with yourself. There’s no turning back. Soak up how you feel in this moment of desperation. It’s the motive you lack. Bury this before it can exist. Bury this. There’s no archaeologist who will ever live to discover this. To uncover this. The finishing move.

Paradox 04:51
8.
Only love and violence could push me through time, force me to this. All this blood and silence... I’ve grown old once, I won’t do it again. This isn’t some post-apocalyptic event. I’m playing god and I’m playing to win. The future is certain, it’s already come and gone. The past is unresolved. We can change it all. This isn’t some hoax and I won’t exaggerate a bit. My presence here is an extinction event. Pull back the curtain, revealing everything at once. Consuming all that we are. Disintegrating into dust. Only mud and oxygen provided the means to evolve and ascend. It’s a flood of pathogens eating away our genetics within. Only love and violence could push me through time, force me to this. It’s a flood of silence. This isn’t some post-apocalyptic event. I’m playing god. I’m playing to win. I’m playing god.

Past 01:00
10.
Plot the course for the cleanse. Preemptive strike the land. Carry plague to the past faster than the speed of light. Missing link, born to die. Extinction rains from the sky. I never planned to survive. No remorse for what I’ve done. No concern for what’s to come. There’s no way to know if this world is my own. There’s no way to know if this world is my own.
11.
Lost at sea. No stars above me. I’m all alone. Now my sense of direction is gone. My anchor sinks to the floor. Lost in the sky. No ground below me. No safety net. I’m falling faster and I don’t care. No, I’m not scared. Lost in my mind. Sanity escapes me. Cut out my heart. I can’t feel anything anymore. I no longer see any meaning at all. Every moment’s gasping for breath, slowly sucking it in. I’m running out of time. Every minute I beg to exist. Every second I plead “Don’t let it end like this.” Every second’s a battle within. All my energy just to live. There’s nothing left to give. When your body starts to break down, that’s just how it’s supposed to be. When your body starts to fail you, there’s nothing more I can do. When your soul escapes your body, please be there when I get there. Farewell, voyager. Farewell, my heart. Farewell... for now.

Best of 2020
- Progressor
- House of Prog

"I really dig the mix of sounds here. There are definite links to heavy metal, metallic prog like Dream Theater, things like Rush, techno and alternative rock. That's just a few of the highlights of the range of sounds, though. The thing is, this is creative and entertaining. It's quite a ride, really."
- Music Street Journal

"I thought this was gripping, original, provocative, dark in all the right ways, heavy, relentless, and pretty darn great. Even the lyrics were well worth pondering: my favorite line- “Leaders fail/ Failures lead.”"
- Progressive Rock Fanatics

“Chest Rockwell have never been a typical progressive rock band, or even a typical band overall. They have always been exploring their own paths, and if they have any major interest in being a part of a progressive rock scene I can't really tell. They do make interesting and innovative music however, and to my mind at least have a true progressive spirit to the material they create, even if or perhaps because of not including all that many obvious references to the past of progressive rock or progressive metal. It is a production that will have more of a niche appeal, but it is a band and an album well worth investigating by those who are interested in a rather purebred alternative variety of progressive rock and progressive metal.”
6/6 Progressor (Norway)

"Overall, this album is a fascinating journey through space and time. I really enjoy how it has some rad Alternative Rock feeling, but the crazy time signature changes and use of oodles of instruments and sounds keeps you from determining it as such. Essentially, I'd say this band is a morph of THE SWORD, MUSE, and PORCUPINE TREE yet it still feels more complex than even that blend could describe. It's unique. They created their own outer space with starlit rainbows and you ride through it on glittering spaceships that turn to rust and ruin in a blink of an eye. Every little element of each song is placed there for a reason and I have a feeling I'll discover more with another listen through… and another. I look forward to exploring CHEST ROCKWELL's galaxy again soon!"
9/10 - Metal Temple

"Who is Chest Rockwell? Now that’s a question. The easy answer is that Chest Rockwell is Josh Hines, a one man composing, performing, producing machine who catapults musical thoughts out at an impressive rate and with a real sense of accuracy. But, who is Chest Rockwell? According to this latest release it would appear we are dealing with a Ghost Of A Man Still Alive… Is life happening around him, unaware of the presence this very project revolves around? Or is that simply too simple? Who is Chest Rockwell? We may never know the answer to that question but in a world where the easy option is the most often trodden path, he evokes emotional challenges. Ghost Of A Man Still Alive does all of those things through the very contradictions at the centre of its being. In the cold light of day, it’s not going to be for everyone and, being honest, an outside hand on the production may well heighten the impact and broaden the appeal but this is bold, daring and rewarding and on that basis we should save our questions for another day." 4/5
- Steven Reid, Sea of Tranquility (UK)

4.5/5 - Progarchives

"Entirely written, composed and produced by guitarist Josh Hines, the new Chest Rockwell is a powerful and interesting record that could have been given more prominence with a better production. "Ghost Of A Man Still Alive" offers some good ideas that would have deserved to be put forward with a better production. But considering the colossal work that had to be delivered by the strong man of the band, we can only bow to the importance of his investment."
- Music Waves (France)

"El Anacronópete's bass-led prog-metal has a grinding riff that works rather well. Less reliant on pure riffing, Farewell, Voyager's rhythm has the galloping motion of Muse's Knights of Cydonia and nice harmonic interplay between synths, piano and guitars. The instrumental closer Cradle's middle eastern tones and multi-layered synths take the lead over grinding guitars, letting a little air in. Chest Rockwell's Ghost Of A Man Still Alive is for stronger and more receptive ears than mine. If the idea of hard-rock and indie-rock short-form prog-metal interests you, then this well played set might be for you."
